Exhibition of two official Navy painters: Michel King & François Bellec
Come and discover two official Navy painters at the museum: François Bellec & Michel King.
Michel King (b. 1930, Sotteville-lès-Rouen) is a painter who has devoted his life to depicting the world of the sea. Appointed official painter to the French Navy in 1973, he spent over 50 years capturing the ports and shores of France before passing away this year at the age of 94. Trained at the Arts Décoratifs de Paris, he mastered oil painting, watercolor and engraving.
François Bellec (b. 1934, Brest) is a French rear-admiral, historian and multi-talented artist. He defines his style as "abstract figurative".
He was appointed official painter to the French Navy in 1975, and has also served as director of the Musée National de la Marine. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Brest, he combines a military career with a passion for art.
