Temporary exhibition: "Collègiens graveurs, menhirs en couleurs" (Collegians engravers, coloured menhirs)

The engraver-typographer Jean-Marie Flageul, from the La Maison collective, already involved in several artistic and cultural education projects in Carnac and Locmariaquer by the Centre des monuments nationaux, is supervising the graphic design sessions based on the lost-plate engraving technique.

Observing, drawing, engraving and printing are the main stages of this project, which focuses on the region's megalithic monuments.

The creation of "megalithic landscapes", more or less faithful to reality, required individual work supervised by the artist, the art teacher and the CMN cultural manager. After the first "in situ" drawings during the discovery tour of the Alignements de Carnac, these were taken up again in class, transferred to the plate, engraved, inked and printed using a press, all new subjects for the pupils to tackle.

The result was a highly successful series of around twenty megalithic "portraits", produced as postcards and offered to participants, with the original prints on display at the Maison des Mégalithes. The "Collegiens Graveurs, Menhirs en Colours" project illustrates the artistic and cultural education policy of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, which aims to make young people in the region active players in the promotion, enhancement and preservation of the monuments and archaeological sites they have inherited from previous generations.
