Eugène, a pharmacist in Loches, and his brother and sister have come up to Paris to try to get married.
Thinking they're in a matrimonial agency, they end up in an employment office and are recruited as servants for Doctor Saint Galmier, director of the Louvre-Hydrotherapique, Paris's leading establishment for the treatment of nervous diseases.
They take the doctor, his sister and his fiancée as their promises. The appearance of Michette, the doctor's former mistress, adds to the misunderstandings, while Saint Galmier mistakes these strange servants for lunatics escaped from the asylum.
