Heritage point : The village of Sainte barbe braves the ocean's wrath under the protection of its chapel. Isolated, the villagers lived in family clans. The facade of the chapel (10th century), listed as a Historic Monument, is in the Renaissance style. It was the scene of a major event in Brittany's revolution: the landing of the emigrants, known as the "Quiberon expedition" (July 1775).
Departure point: Plouharnel Tourist Office, Rond-Point de l'Océan, 56340 Plouharnel
From the Plouharnel Tourist Office, join the Préleran traffic circle. Turn left into rue Jean Rohu, then right into rue Jean-Pierre Calloc'h as far as the Dolmens de Rondossec, visible on the left.
Turn left into rue Hoche, then left again into the path. At the end of the lane, turn right into rue du Pont Neuf and continue to the railway line. Cross the tracks, then turn left onto chemin de Lostiguen. After about 100 m, take the right-hand path (voie verte) and follow it until you reach impasse Lenay.
At the end of the impasse, turn left towards the village of Sainte-Barbe on the route de Glévenay. At the end of the road, turn left after the "Camping et caravaning interdit" sign. Turn right onto the grassy path, passing the Glévenay fountain and wash-house. Cross the small footbridge and follow the dry-stone wall to reach the mill path. The old windmill (privately owned) is opposite, offering a fine panoramic view of the dunes and ocean. Turn left and continue along the path. Megaliths are hidden in the dry-stone walls.
At the Sainte-Barbe washhouse, take the path on the right towards the Sainte-Barbe chapel. Drive through the village on rue de Ouarhé for around 100 m, then turn left on rue du Kreisker to reach rue de la plage Sainte-Barbe by turning right. At the intersection, continue straight ahead on rue de Kernizan. At the end of the street, fork left onto the grassy country lane and continue straight ahead. At the next intersection, take the track on the right, then the one on the left.
Carefully cross the D781 to reach the village of Kergazec. At the crossroads, turn right and continue along the track. Go around the Saint-Antoine chapel, cross the road and take the track opposite. At the first crossroads, go straight on, then at the next, turn left and continue straight on to the pond. To reach the Mané Remor site, built on the highest point in the commune, take the path on the left, opposite the pond, then turn left at the crow's-foot.
Retrace your steps and, on leaving the site, turn right. After the pond, take the path on the left, then the sunken path immediately on the right. Continue along this path: the alignments and the Vieux Moulin mound are on the left. At the crossroads, take the path to the left of the house, then follow the sunken path along the road towards Plouharnel station.
Cross the railroad tracks and turn left into rue Pierre-Marie Guézel. Continue along the road, then at the bend in the road, take the dirt track on the left. Turn right onto route du Plasker, then right again into impasse du Plasker.
After passing the cemetery, return to the starting point at the Tourist Office.
Please note that in winter, the paths may be flooded.
You'll find this circuit in the booklet "Le sentier des mégalithes de Plouharnel" available from your Tourist Office.
