Each of the three tours will introduce you to the "little" history of the Ria d'Étel and the Erdeven dunes, placing it in the context of the "big" history, that of the great changes and upheavals that have marked our society.
You'll learn how the Erdeven dunes became beaches, what a ria is, how and why oyster farming took root there, how the industrial revolution led to the rise of fishing and canning, and how the effects of war were felt between 1940 and 1945.
Free for children under 7.
Visits on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 12pm.
Wednesday: Discovering the Ria
Thursday: The 70s: Erdeven dunes become beaches
Friday: World War II in the Ria d'Etel
See the full program in the Tourist Office diary.
Dominique Baudel is also the author of two historical works. One is about the Ria d'Etel, with a preface by Yves Coppens, and is on sale at the Etel Tourist Office. The other tells the story of the Erdeven dunes, which here are known as the Falaises.
