Overlooking Locmariaquer's main beach to the west, the Pierres Plates dolmen is owned by the French State, and has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1882. It is now part of the Conservatoire du Littoral estate.
Access to the interior of the monument is defended by a rope, in order to protect the structure which, being very exposed to the sea winds and keeping a permanent humid air inside, is slowly deteriorating.
