The Sonorités d'Été exhibition was born of the challenge taken up by exhibition curator Yola Couder to reveal the Chapelle du Saint-Esprit in all its nakedness, while dressing it up in sound. The question arose: could a sound creation interact with the height of the site and draw out its profound sonorities?
With sound artist Félix Blume, they imagined and conceived a monumental work tailor-made for the chapel: Pluie d'Été. From the interior heights of the building, drops of water relentlessly strike a hundred metal drums placed on the floor. This creates a gentle, irregular melody echoing the building's ages, the passage of time and its memory. This sound sculpture also presents a multiplicity of personal stories told by the chapel's inhabitants, which mingle and cohabit without jostling one another.
Through his international artistic career, Félix Blume takes us on a journey to meet populations and communities who are often invited to participate in the creative process, which thus becomes collaborative. Five sound installations are presented in the chapel, forming listening rooms that allow us to discover the voices of water. The works chosen evoke the water that carries sound. We hear, for example, the Sighs of the Zapotalito lagoon in Mexico, the Rumors of the sea in Thailand and the songs of an Afro-Ecuadorian culture in Ecuador.
Recording and listening are a means of capturing the imperceptible and a pretext for encountering others. Sound art is the central element in this exhibition, where the viewer is invited to travel the world with a good ear.
Opening on June 12 at 6.30pm
