Pardon of St. Michael's Chapel

chapelle St Michel
56740 Locmariaquer
The Saint-Michel Chapel, built in the village of Locmariaquer, celebrates its pardon on the Sunday closest to September 29, the feast day of Saint Michael.

This chapel, dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael—whose statue overlooks the high altar—is located at the highest point in the town, 11 meters above sea level. It was built in 1749 by Christophe-Paul De Robien, Baron de Kaër, who had previously acquired the old chapel built on Gallo-Roman ruins.
While digging the foundations for the current chapel, a large number of medals bearing the image of Caesar and other objects were found. Today, the chapel is a rectangular building 14 meters long by 7 meters wide.
Above its doorway is a decorative element featuring three fleur-de-lis in relief, a stone bearing the date 1813, and a chiseled coat of arms that, if legible, would represent the De Robien coat of arms.
