Nationalism? Democracy? Lecture by Ronan Le Coadic
Nationalism is on the rise, while democracy is in decline. But neither is exactly what we think it is: there are forms of nationalism that oppress people and others that liberate them, and what our governments call “democracy” is in reality a construct carefully crafted by men who fear the power of the people far more than they desire it.
As the presidential election approaches, these questions resonate with the feeling that our votes make no difference and that we are being asked to choose between illusions. But does that mean we should despair? No—because true democracy can be built day by day, and the people of Brittany can do their part.
Lecture on Monday, October 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Terraqué auditorium; free admission.
