Screening of the film *Guyane: A Gem in the Amazon*, with director Yohann Brichet in attendance
In this remote overseas region, we embark on a journey through history, culture, and tourism. Yohann Brichet takes us on foot, by plane, in a 4x4, or by canoe.
Through his eyes, we’ll discover the homes of Amerindians, Hmong, Creoles, legionnaires, Bushinengues, descendants of convicts, engineers at the space center, garimpeiros in a gold mine, and teachers from mainland France.
The backdrop for this expedition is the vast equatorial rainforest, with its unique ecosystem, as well as the many rivers and streams that crisscross it. So many encounters, so many different facets, and so many adventures to experience.
For French Guiana is a land of contrasts: many communities preserve their traditional way of life while living in this small piece of Europe lost in the Amazon—and, in fact, one of the richest regions in South America.
This journey is an authentic expedition, a trip to the heart of a preserved territory that is unique in the world.
A schoolteacher, Yohann Brichet is passionate about travel and always on the lookout for new adventures.
He has traveled throughout France, Louisiana, French Guiana, and California. During his travels, he gradually traded his schoolbag for a camera to film his discoveries. For two years, he crisscrossed French Guiana and now shares his firsthand experience with us through the footage he brought back from this little corner of the Amazon, a region rich in diverse treasures. His film on French Guiana is his first major project.
Runtime: 90 minutes
