I have been a professional ceramist and potter since 1974. First in England, where I made glazed clay, and then in Brittany since 1980. With this change of country, culture and studio, I specialised in the salt stoneware technique, a unique process in which my pieces are glazed during firing. I use several types of clay, light or dark, but always refractory. The long firing takes place in a large wood-fired kiln.
My pieces are either sculpted or turned. After throwing, the pieces are deliberately deformed or assembled differently, which gives them movement and a touch of humour. I like to play with the natural colour of salt stoneware, then it's up to the fire and flame to leave their mark.
