5:30 pm "DEBUSSY, la musique entre peinture et littérature" with Emilie de FAUTEREAU.
Claude Debussy's music maintains exceptionally rich links with the other arts. Nurtured by the poetry of Baudelaire and the operas of Wagner, fascinated by Whistler and Camille Claudel, an attentive reader of the Symbolists, Debussy conceived and conceived his music at the crossroads of painting and literature, in the spirit of a total art permeating the age. He forged a musical language so profoundly visual and poetic that the critics of his time had to borrow their vocabulary from the visual arts and poetry to try and characterize it. The term "musical impressionism" has been used to classify this music, but it was ill-suited to the task, and Debussy rejected it. Through the testimonies of contemporaries, and above all the luminous pages of André Suares, this is an opportunity to discover how a musical work can, without abandoning anything of its own nature, achieve color, light and poem, and how Debussy invented a radically new way of making music heard - or seen.
Price: €10 and €6 for Art et Culture members Tickets at 4:45 pm. Reservations recommended: aec.reservation@gmail.com
