ORPHEUS vocal group from Ukraine - Songs of the earth and Songs of the soul

Basilique 9 Rue de Vannes
56400 Sainte-Anne-d'Auray
ORPHEUS, founded in Lviv, Ukraine, in 2000 as an a capella vocal ensemble of eight male voices, has a varied repertoire of Orthodox religious music, Ukrainian folk songs, many original Ukrainian compositions, world and classical songs, and songs of their own composition.

In June 2001, the group met Pope John Paul II during his visit to Ukraine.

The group's first international success came in June 2002, at the International Festival of Religious Music in Coventry, England, where Orpheus was enthusiastically received by the audience, participating choirs and organizers.

In March 2005, the group took part in the International Festival of Religious Music in Lourdes, then in June 2006 in Chester (England), and in 2007 at the Festival of Religious Music in Switzerland.

By decree of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on May 4, 2019, all Orpheus vocal group singers were personally awarded the honorary titles "Honored Artist of Ukraine".

In addition to its international tours, regular collaboration with Les Joyeux Petits Souliers and other special events, Orpheus also gives concerts in Ukraine and the Lviv region.

On January 10, 2020, Metropolitan Epiphanios of Kiev and All Ukraine awarded the "ORPHEUS" octet the Order of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker for the renewal of Ukrainian spirituality, its dedication to the ideals of good and its significant contribution to the public good.

Since the beginning of the large-scale war against Ukraine, thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, which facilitates short-term touring trips for the group's members, the ORPHEUS vocal group, in an unchanged composition, is trying to constantly continue its work, its rehearsal processes, its concert tours through European countries.

The aim of Orpheus is to popularize the idea of supporting Ukraine in its ordeal of war among the citizens of the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria, etc., to disseminate Ukrainian culture, its musical richness, its Ukrainian song traditions, and to promote cultural exchanges with various European musical groups and artists.
