In the pre-1950 rural society, residents were aware of their dependence on the land that sustained them. Lucien Pouëdras’s paintings bear witness to these close ties. In the postwar period, the transformation of the traditional agricultural system disrupted far more than just the landscapes. Remembering these landscapes and understanding their transformation prompts us to reflect on the ways we view and experience our own landscapes.

This exhibition combines informational panels with some thirty paintings by Lucien Pouëdras.

Lucien Pouëdras’s work offers a vivid and richly detailed account of daily life within the traditional agricultural system.
