Film Screening and Discussion: Sacerdoce
The parish film club kicks off the season with a screening of the film "Sacerdoce," a documentary by Damien Boyer, which will be followed by a discussion.
Are priests holy figures or potential child sex offenders? These caricatures reflect the divide and controversy surrounding the image of priests, but also the image of Christ and an entire millennia-old French and European culture that is, nevertheless, founded on this faith. These priests are, above all, ordinary men who say they have answered an extraordinary calling: that of the priesthood, the responsibility for the sacred.
With a sincere and offbeat perspective, we’ll hear the stories of four priests in France and a French missionary priest in the Philippines.
Through the daily life of a wandering priest who crisscrosses the Ariège region in his trailer to listen to the villagers, that of a mountain priest who encourages young people to push their limits and contemplate creation, the perspective of an elderly Parisian priest—single by definition—who specializes in couples and sensuality; through the figure of a former engineer from a bourgeois family who shares his faith among hunters, and the life of a priest who has devoted himself to street children in Manila, we will discover the challenges of what the priesthood truly represents.
