Theater on the Big Screen: *Les Fausses confidences*
Theater on the Big Screen: Comédie-Française Series > *Les Fausses confidences*
Dorante is madly in love with Araminte, a wealthy widow, but his humble background prevents him from openly courting her. His former valet, Dubois, then devises a scheme: to have Dorante hired as steward so that he can get close to her and, perhaps, win her affection. But Madame Argante is pushing her daughter to marry a count… Everything hinges on Araminte’s heart.
Without Dubois to confront them, the characters would remain trapped in their fears.
This is what moves Christophe Honoré in this play, in which he reunites with the troupe he directed in 2020 for his adaptation of Marcel Proust’s *The Guermantes Way*. As a writer, filmmaker, and director, he is drawn to the inner workings of texts. Here, he approaches Marivaux’s language for the mystery it conceals—far from all pomp, at its truest core.
In this way, he seeks to shed light on the labyrinthine emotions that course through these characters—already mature yet vulnerable—who struggle to admit their desires to one another.
Running time: 105 minutes / Directed by: Christophe Honoré / Text: Marivaux
