Guided Tour of the Atlantic Wall - Bégo Site

Set in the heart of a remarkable natural site—Brittany’s largest dune system—you’ll discover the history of World War II in Morbihan.

Welcomed and guided by volunteers from the association “Les Bunkers Mémoire de Guerre,” you’ll learn, in our Bunker Museum 39-45, the tragic history of this iconic site of the Lorient Pocket through several exhibits:

- the construction by the Todt Organization of the Bégo Heavy Coastal Battery;
- life under the Occupation and the Resistance;
- the construction of the Atlantic Wall and Field Marshal Rommel’s inspection in April 1944;
- the surrender of the Lorient Pocket and the Liberation.

The museum also serves as the starting point for a “Path of Remembrance” and an immersive guided tour lasting nearly two and a half hours through the history-steeped ruins of the Atlantic Wall:

- An exploration of the heavy coastal battery that protected the Lorient harbor and Admiral Dönitz’s U-boats
- Explore distinctive bunkers such as the SK (Sonder Konstruktion) Puit Bunker, the iconic observation tower, and a barracks with its murals, among others.
- View the impressive 340mm Model 1912 gun—known as the Saint-Chamond gun—one of the last surviving examples and representative of those deployed at the Bégo site.

Hours in July and August:
- “Bunker 39-45” Museum: Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (open continuously); admission €5 per person, free for children under 12. Open to all ages.
- Guided tour of the “remains of the Atlantic Wall”: open to all except those with limited mobility, Thursdays and Sundays, departures at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., admission €5, free for children under 12. Please wear closed-toe shoes.
- Combined ticket: Museum and guided tour, 8€ per person.


The 39/45 Bunker Museum is now closed and will reopen only for Heritage Days. Guided tours have also ended and will resume only for European Heritage Days.

During European Heritage Days, volunteers from the association Les Bunkers Mémoire de Guerre welcome you to the natural and historic site of Le Bégo in Plouharnel (56) on September 19 and 20.
- From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Free admission to the Bunker Museum 39-45;
- Starting at 10:00 a.m. and every 1.5 hours: Guided tours of the Atlantic Wall ruins; admission €5, free for children under 12.


Throughout the year, the association welcomes groups of 15 people (families, organizations, school groups, etc.) by appointment.
